The St-Stanislas cathedral
The St-Stanislas Cathedral, whose architecture evokes a Greek temple,
was built in XIIth century. Outside of the cathedral, a bronze statue
of the large duke Gedymin, recently set up there, were was founded the
city! In this part of the city, the old Town hall rises the collections
of the Museum of the Art schools of Lithuania. At the opposed side of
the Gedymin place, rises the old Ausros door (Dawn carries), or carries
of Medininkai, XVI th
One can see the remainders of the enclosing wall (XVI-XVII th) in streets
KOMJAUNIMO and BIERSTANO.
The University of Vilnius was founded in 1579. The library of the University exists since 1570 and has more than three million volumes today. An old observatory is contiguous to the library.
